What the today's racing page shows

The board is organised by meeting and race off-time. For each race you get the field, the current price on every runner and the best available odds highlighted across the bookmakers we compare.

Because the feed is live, fields update through the day: non-runners drop out, prices shorten or drift as money arrives, and later meetings populate as cards firm up. Evening and jumps cards sit alongside the flat, and once a race goes off it moves to result.

Use it to answer the basic match-day questions quickly — what racing is on today, when the next race jumps off, and who is favourite in each field.

How the best price per runner is chosen

For every horse we read the decimal price at each bookmaker in the comparison set and surface the highest one. That's the whole logic — no weighting, no editorial nudge. The best price is simply the biggest number on offer for that runner right now.

That matters more in racing than in most sports. On a competitive handicap the gap between the top price and a short one can be several points, and over a season of backing at best odds that difference compounds. The page saves you opening five apps to find who's biggest on your selection.

Prices move, so the highlighted best price is a snapshot. Always confirm the live odds in the bookmaker's own slip before you commit a stake.

Why prices differ between bookmakers

Two things drive the spread you see across the row: margin and market position.

Margin is the built-in overround on a race. Across our sampled markets, average margins run from roughly 4.3% at the sharpest end (Betfair) up to around 8.4% (LiveScore Bet). A tighter book means prices closer to true probability, which is why some names appear at the top of the runner more often.

On best-price share — how often a bookmaker posts the top available odds in sampled markets — Betfair leads at about 53%, with Ladbrokes near 22%, William Hill and Unibet around 17%, and Betway close to 14%. Others such as BetVictor sit lower at roughly 6%. No single firm is best on every runner, which is exactly why comparing per-race is worth it.

Positioning also plays a part: firms price up to their own liabilities, so a horse that's been backed heavily at one shop may still be a point bigger at another that took less on it.
